A cloud server is a virtual server running in a cloud computing environment. Cloud servers are created using virtualization software to divide a physical server into multiple virtual servers. It can access virtual server functions remotely through an online interface.

Cloud Server types and feature
There are three main types of cloud environment include:

  • Public Cloud — Whole computing infrastructure is located on the premises of a cloud computing company that offers the cloud service.
  • Private Cloud —using a cloud infrastructure (network) solely by one customer/organization. It is not shared with others. The security and control level is highest while using a private network.
  • Hybrid Cloud — using both private and public clouds, depending on their purpose. You host your most important applications on your own servers to keep them more secure and secondary applications elsewhere.

Key features:

  • Computing infrastructure that can be physical, virtual, or a mix of the two depending on use case
  • Has all the capabilities of an on-premises server
  • Enables users to process intensive workloads and store large volumes of information
  • Automated services are accessed on demand through an API
  • Gives users the choice of monthly or as-you-go payment
  • Users can opt for a shared hosting plan that scales depending on needs

How does Cloud Server work?

  1. SAN storage is a place to store information for all users.
  2. Multiple Physical Servers will work together. If any one is lost, others can work as a replacement.
  3. Hypervisor is a type of software, such as VMware, Hyper-V, that must be placed on each Physical Server. The importance of Hyervisor is to be able to divide into smaller Virtual Servers.
  4. Resource Pool consists of CPU, RAM and HDD of every device (Physical Server, SAN storage) will work together. It is the source of how the Cloud works together.
  5. Virtual Server is a server that customers use. Which can be used in a variety of formats, according to the Resource that they have, which App with the OS of each machine / each user can choose to use according to the needs of each person as if it is a server.

Benefits and drawbacks of cloud server
Choosing a cloud server will depend on the needs of the organization and specific application and workload requirements. The potential benefits and drawbacks include:

  • A cloud server gives the business user stability and security because any software problems are isolated from your environment. Other cloud servers won’t impact on your cloud server unlike with physical servers.
  • Cloud servers are stable, fast and secure. They avoid the hardware issues seen with physical servers, and they are likely to be the most stable option for businesses wanting to keep their IT budget down.
  • Cloud servers provide a faster service for your money. You’ll get more resources and a faster service than you would for a similar price of physical server. A cloud-hosted website will run faster.
  • You get scalability with cloud servers. It is very easy and quick to upgrade by adding memory and disk space, as well as being more affordable.
